Dentures

Dentures are artificial teeth and gums that are created to replace missing teeth. If you are missing most or all of your teeth, restore your smile with this removable device. The teeth are made out of porcelain or acrylic and held together by an acrylic base, providing a natural appearance. The base of a denture is intended to mimic the look and colour of the natural gum. Dentures will also support the structures around your cheeks and lips, as missing teeth can cause the facial muscles to droop.

Procedure

You will begin with a consultation where our dentists will advise on the best treatment options. An impression of your mouth will be taken to make sure that your dentures will fit comfortably in your mouth once you’re ready to wear them. After the removal of any teeth, we suggest waiting a few months so that your gums can heal. An immediate denture is also available. Together with your dentist, you can tailor the size, shape and colour of your denture. When it is time for the fitting process, there may need to be adjustments or you will be given instructions on how to care for your new set of teeth.

What to Expect

Everyday tasks such as eating and speaking may feel awkward but with practice and time, your mouth will soon adapt. Putting your dentures in and taking them out will also require a bit of practice. It will be best to start eating soft foods in the beginning and be extra careful with hot food and drinks as it will be quite difficult to judge temperatures properly.

after care

Instructions will be given to you on how to best care for your dentures. A regular cleaning routine will be good for your dentures so that it can last longer. Make sure to take your dentures out at night as this will give your mouth a chance to rest. Make regular check ups at Paramount Dental Sydney, to ensure your gums are healthy and your dentures are in perfect condition.
