Who doesn’t want a smile with flawless rows of shining straight, white teeth? This is where no-prep veneers step in. The good news… they’re available at Paramount Dental Sydney.

The convenience factors of no-prep veneers seem hard to beat on both a convenience level and long-term health level. Let’s discuss the two options.

So first, what are veneers?

Veneers are essentially a shell for your teeth. They attach to the surface of your existing teeth to improve appearance without the need to remove your original teeth. Veneers are a great solution to makeover a tooth that is broken or chipped and are used to create a symmetrical smile.

Traditional veneers are bonded, most commonly to the front eight teeth depending on the concern of our patients. Here are a few on the common issues:

  • Genetics – You have slight crowding in your front teeth and may not want braces. Alternatively, you may have gaps, discoloured spots or unusually shaped teeth.

  • Trauma – You have had an accident at some point and may have chipped or cracked your front teeth or required root canal work. Also a tooth may have become grey.

  • Childhood antibiotics – Although not as common these days, certain antibiotics given to you as a child may have left horizontal stains on your front teeth. In most cases, bleaching is ineffective and porcelain veneers have been found to be very effective in this situation.

  • Wear and Tear – Our teeth do wear down with age. Not only can this impact your self-confidence but you may also have difficulties chewing and digesting.

The process for traditional veneers is far more involved. Intensive preparation is required and usually involves the grinding down of the existing tooth’s structure in order for the veneer to be applied. This is that shark-teeth-like effect we a more often seeing on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

The benefits of no-prep veneers

  • Less prep work of course – No-prep veneers are done in two visits. Visit one is your consultation and mold casting. Visit two is your fitting! That’s it.

  • Easy installation – We won’t need to grind away your original teeth in most cases. We simply apply adhesive and attach.

  • No anaesthesia – We won’t be grinding away your enamel, which means no anaesthesia. In some cases small portions of your enamel may need to be removed.

  • Healthy teeth are maintained – Keeping your original teeth is beneficial to your long-term oral health. Loss of your original, healthy, adult teeth can result in bone loss in the jaw.

  • Reversibility – Because very little enamel and tooth structure is lost, your no-prep veneers can be taken off in most cases.

  • Recovery – There is literally no down-time. Once your new smile is fitted, you’re on your way!

Overall, both types of veneers can be constructed from either porcelain or composite structures. We will often make composite veneers in our practice, whereas porcelain veneers are custom made in a lab and sent to us for your fitting.
